Metaphors and metonymies in "musical passages" of chosen texts by Josef Škvorecký

The diploma thesis Metaphors and Metonymies in "Musical" Passages of Chosen Texts by Josef Škvorecký shows how jazz inspiration is reflected in author's texts on the level of tropologies. Firstly, more general interdisciplinary context is presented to show possible intersections between the two arts, literature and music. Afterwards, chosen "musical passages" from Josef Škvorecký's works (The Cowards, The Swell Season, The Bass Saxophone) are classified to reveal, what source domains for metaphors and what types of metonymies are used by the author to talk about the domain of music. In the classification the approach of the cognitive linguistics is taken into consideration
